Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut in the fields. – Mark 11.8
The king of glory comes, will you turn aside and mark his passing? Will you drop what you are doing and welcome him in with whatever you have closest at hand, be it tree branches or the coats off your backs?
Will you join in the song, and shout? “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
The one who comes is not a proud king, but a humble servant. The kingdom he is bringing is not one of domination and the pursuit of power, but of sacrifice and gentleness.
The king of glory comes, blessed is he, he is our neighbour, the stranger, our enemy.
The king of glory comes, shout hosanna, he is the lonely, the desperate, the lost.
The king of glory comes, lay down your coats, he is the hungry, the thirsty, the homeless.
The king of glory comes, spread out tree branches, he is the victims of violence, oppression and hate.
The king of glory comes, will you turn aside and mark his passing? Will you drop what you are doing and welcome him in?
Thanks be to God!
