St. John the Divine Anglican Church, Squamish
St. John the Divine is seeking a part-time Children, Youth, and Family (CYF) Ministry Worker for 40 hours a month. Hours/days may be flexible, with some work-from-home hours possible. Responsibilities will include supporting and enhancing current St. John’s ministries with children, youth and families (Tot Time, Family Feasts, Sunday mornings), as well as supporting St. John’s in the next steps in this area. Training will be provided (Vancouver School of Theology Children and Youth Certificate and/or other).
Compensation: $25 per hour.

- Ability to work well with people of all ages, especially children and youth from a variety of different backgrounds and abilities.
- Ability and skill to assess needs as they arise and to create a safe space for all.
Job Requirements:
- Certificate or equivalent experience in education, child/youth development or childcare.
- Experience coordinating and working with volunteers is an asset
- Experience working with children, youth, and families in a church setting is an asset
- Training or willingness to be trained in working with Christian curricula for children.
- Willingness to undergo screening requirements (Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and online Safeguarding training modules).
- First Aid Level C with CPR
- ASSIST, Food Safe or other relevant trainings an asset.

- Comfortable working in a church and faith-based environment

Overview of Responsibilities:
St. John the Divine is a thriving all-age church in the heart of Garibaldi Highlands. St. John’s actively supports and facilitates outreach initiatives with children, youth and their families in the local community. Through this CYF position the parish hopes to continue its growing CYF ministry and expand to meet the needs of the congregation and wider community in “Sea to Sky Country.” Below is an average month’s expectations and responsibilities, at 40 hrs per month, with some pieces being flexible/negotiable based on the availability and skills of the successful applicant, as well as the needs of the St. John’s community. Hours provided are approximate.
- Oversee, and facilitate St. John’s existing children and family ministries:
- Tot Time
- A weekly, free drop-in play group for infants and toddlers with their caregivers. This program currently runs on Tuesday mornings from 10 am to 12 pm. Attend & assist three times a month with set up and clean up time (Approx 9 hours per month).
- Family Feast
- A monthly gathering for families with children, that includes a meal, Bible story, songs, activities and a craft. (Approx 4 hours per month).
- Sunday Mornings
- John’s weekly service is on Sundays at 10 am. Currently, there is a children’s time as part of the service, a corner in the sanctuary with colouring sheets, pew activity bags, as well as a playroom. Sunday mornings might include some programming, childcare, or simply helping children, youth and families feel comfortable and participate in the service. Four times a month (Approx 10 hours per month).
- Conduct administrative tasks, including planning and preparing for events, drop-ins and services, coordinating and scheduling volunteers, and maintaining spaces and materials as needed (Approx 9 hours per month).
- In collaboration with the Priest-in-Charge and the St. John’s community, develop and implement new children, youth, and family ministries. These will be developed considering the skills of the successful applicant and the needs identified in the St. John’s and the wider community. This might include a youth group, participation in regional youth programs, a day camp, or a program for parents as needed. (Approx 8 hours per month).
- Undergo training and professional development as required. The tuition for a Children and Youth Certificate at the Vancouver School of Theology, First Aid Certification or other necessary trainings or similar programs will be paid by St. John the Divine.
