Stewardship Moment: Norma Lawton
According to the dictionary, stewardship is the act of caring responsibly or managing something in one’s care such as property, an organization, money, land.
Since I have been on Parish Council, it has been a privilege and responsibility to work with others in the care of people, programs and the church property itself, even our rector although he is not part of the church property!
I have been overwhelmed with the kindness and welcoming attitude of the people in this parish. This is not the case in every church but here at St. John’s there is always a welcoming spirit and happy smile when anyone comes in the door. And now most of us have name tags; God knows who we are; yikes! I can no longer hide under my bushel.
The parable of the ten pounds in Luke 19 reminds us that God has given each of us talents, intellect, skills, time, experience, spiritual gifts and material possessions. I have always felt that my faith results in my actions and words. Am I walking the talk? It seems I have to constantly assess my priorities to see if they are aligned with what God wants me to do. This can be exhausting work but on the other hand, it is too great a risk not to be assessing my actions in order to make certain that I am investing my energy, time and skills to further God’s kingdom. Prayer has been my greatest aid in accomplishing this.
